📖 Oops… I Did It Again – Impulsivity & ADHD

Ever sent a text you regretted five seconds later? Or bought something totally unnecessary just because it felt like a good idea? Yeah… welcome to ADHD impulsivity.

It happens all the time. I’ll be walking through a store, just getting one thing… and suddenly, I’m at the checkout with a bunch of random stuff I never planned to buy.

Or even worse—conversations. My brain goes faster than my filter, so sometimes I say things before I even realize it. And then I’m like… ‘Oh. That was dumb.’

And let’s not even talk about last-minute decisions. Like that time I agreed to a weekend trip… totally forgetting I had a deadline. My ADHD brain lives in ‘right now’ mode, and future me? That’s his problem.

So how do I deal with it? First, I try the ‘Pause Trick.’ If I feel the urge to do something impulsive, I stop for 10 seconds. Just enough time to ask myself: ‘Do I really want this? Or is this just my ADHD talking?

Second, I use an ‘Accountability Buddy.’ If I’m about to make a dumb decision, I text a friend first. If they reply with ‘Elias, seriously?’—I know I should probably rethink it.

ADHD impulsivity can be fun… until it isn’t. So if you’ve ever done something totally random and regretted it later, just know—you’re not alone.

What’s the most impulsive thing you’ve ever done? Drop it in the comments.
